Frequently Asked Questions

What does PolyrhythmLab do?
A groovebox built around Euclidean/polyrhythmic sequencing: each sound layer gets its own step count, pulse count, and rotation, so layers of different lengths interlock into evolving polyrhythms instead of one shared grid. Layers can be drums, glitch/textural one-shots, classic synth voices (piano, bell, pad, bass), or melodic synth patches, each with its own filter, reverb, delay, pitch, and per-parameter LFOs.

What is Song mode?
A way to arrange saved patterns into sections and chain them into a full song, with its own playback and export.

What is VJ Mix?
A live visual performance surface: blend two of the app's audio-reactive visualizations together, apply real-time color/shader effects (RGB split, kaleidoscope, pixelate, glow, trail) and a 3D camera (zoom, pan, orbit, tilt), each with its own LFO — randomize the whole look by hand or let an autonomous "robot" keep remixing it, and record the performance via ReplayKit.

Can I send the visuals to a TV or projector?
Yes, via AirPlay or a wired HDMI/Lightning adapter — the visual output mirrors to the external display while your device keeps showing the full set of controls.

Can I save and reload my patterns and VJ mixes?
Yes. Both the groovebox patterns and VJ Mix setups (visual styles, effects, camera, and their LFOs) can be saved as named presets and reloaded anytime.

Can I export my music?
Yes — patterns and songs can be exported as audio or as a MIDI file.

Is my progress saved?
Yes, all patterns, songs, VJ mixes, and settings are stored locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Privacy

PolyrhythmLab does not require an account and does not use ads, analytics, or trackers. Patterns, songs, presets, and settings are stored locally on your device and never leave it.

The app does not access the microphone. Screen recording (used only when you tap Record in VJ Mix) is handled entirely by Apple's ReplayKit and saved to your device — nothing is transmitted off-device.
