What is Patchlume?
A node-graph editor for building generative visuals in real time — patch generators, modifiers, and combiners together on a canvas, like cabling a Eurorack synth, except the signal is video instead of audio.
What can I patch it into?
Generators (plasma, voronoi, particles, camera, text, imported photos/video, and more), modifiers (blur, feedback, trails, chromatic aberration, and more), and combiners (blend, mask, wipe, and more) — all connected freely on the canvas. Any parameter can be driven by audio (bass/mid/treble/beat), MIDI, an LFO, a step sequencer, or a Macro fader for live performance.
Does it need an internet connection or an account?
No. Patchlume works entirely offline — there's no account, no sign-in, and no server of any kind.
What are the Camera, Microphone, Bluetooth, and Photos permissions for?
Camera — only used if you add a Camera generator node to a patch, as a live video source. Microphone — only used to drive audio-reactive visuals (bass/mid/treble/beat detection). Bluetooth — only used to discover and connect Bluetooth MIDI controllers. Photos — only used to import a photo/video you pick for a Media node, and to save your own recorded visuals back to your library when you tap Save. None of these are used unless the matching feature is actually in your patch.
Can I record what I make?
Yes — tap record to capture the live output, then save it straight to Photos or share it (including as a playable video to apps like WhatsApp).
Does it work with an external display or AirPlay?
Yes — connect over HDMI or AirPlay and Patchlume mirrors the clean visual output, with an optional full-screen Performance Mode on your phone/iPad for controls while the display shows just the visuals.
Does it support MIDI?
Yes — Patchlume responds to MIDI CC and Note input from any connected MIDI device (USB or Bluetooth), which can be patched into any parameter.
Can I send the visuals to OBS, Resolume, or vMix?
Yes — Patchlume can broadcast its live output as an NDI® source over your local network, picked up by any NDI-compatible app on the same Wi-Fi or wired network. Patchlume is powered by NDI®, a registered trademark of Vizrt NDI AB.
Patchlume does not collect any personal data, does not require an account, and does not connect to the internet for any core functionality. All rendering, audio analysis, and MIDI processing happen entirely on-device. Camera, microphone, Bluetooth, Photos, and local-network access are used only for the specific features described above, only while you're using them, and nothing is ever transmitted off your local network.
