Frequently Asked Questions

How does a duel work?
You and your opponent get the same 10 questions — intervals, chords, scales, or progressions — generated from a shared seed so both devices hear identical content without any audio being sent over the network. Whoever answers correctly and fastest scores more.

How is the score calculated?
A correct answer is worth 100 points, plus up to +50 for speed and up to +50 more for a consecutive-answer streak. Wrong answers or timeouts (8 seconds per question) score 0 and break your streak. Full breakdown is available in-app from the ⓘ button.

Do I need a Game Center account to play?
Only for real-time duels against another player, which use Apple's Game Center to match and connect you. You can practice solo against the app's bots (three difficulty levels) with no account or internet connection at all.

What is the Bot Ladder Tournament?
A three-round solo challenge against all three bot difficulties back-to-back, with a combined score and win tally at the end.

Can I play if my opponent quits mid-match?
Yes — you can also forfeit and leave at any time from the ✕ button during a match.

Is there a way to play offline?
Yes, Practice vs. the App and the Bot Ladder Tournament work entirely offline. Only real 1v1 matchmaking needs a network connection.

Privacy

EarBattle does not collect, store, or share any personal data of its own, and does not use analytics or tracking of any kind. Real-time matches use Apple's Game Center to find and connect you with an opponent, which is governed by Apple's own privacy policy. All audio generation, question logic, and scoring happen entirely on-device.
